History of JCI Sibu
In 1957, a prominent lawyer, the late JCI Senator Ting Tung Ming introduced the Jaycee Movement in Sibu. He led a group of six (6) energetic young men to form “Sibu Junior Chamber of Commerce”. The 1st Annual General Meeting was held in the early of 1958 and the Late JCI Senator Ting Tung Ming was elected as the Chapter President. Established in 1958, the Chapter was affiliated to Sarawak Jaycees, which was affiliated to Jaycees International.
In compliance with the change of Junior Chamber International to her new name “Jaycees International” at the JCI World Congress 1972 in Taipei, Sibu Junior Chamber of Commerce was renamed to “JaycessSibu” in 1985. Again, in line with Junior Chamber Malaysia, “JaycessSibu” was renamed as “Junior Chamber Sibu” in 1998. In 2012, Junior Chamber Sibu was renamed to “Junior Chamber International Sibu”.
After 64 years of inception, Junior Chamber Sibu stands high in this township and still remains a dynamic Chapter in Malaysia not because of miracle but merely due to the Presidents, JCI Senators, associate members as well as community leaders and government officials.
